Baja California's northern border zone (Tijuana to San Felipe/Ensenada) is only the top slice of a peninsula that stretches roughly 1,200 km — a full road trip south passes through Baja California Sur to Los Cabos, with Loreto, La Paz, and the surf/arts town of Todos Santos along the way.
Highway 1 (the Transpeninsular Highway) is paved the entire length but narrow and unlit in stretches — driving after dark outside towns is not recommended anywhere on the peninsula.
Mid-peninsula towns like Guerrero Negro (whale watching, Jan–March) and San Ignacio (oasis town, cave paintings) are common overnight stops on a longer drive south.
Most of this app is scoped to the northern border region day-to-day; treat this guide as an orientation if a longer Baja road trip is in your plans.
